Safari Itinerary

DAY 01: ARRIVAL – NAIROBI

Arrival at JKIA Airport where you will be met by HTT Operations Manager, a short safari brief and hand you to your driver guide then transferred by private vehicle to Movenpick Hotel located in the heart of Westlands, Nairobi’s commercial, retail and entertainment suburb about 20 kilometers from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The hotel provides easy access to the city center and diplomatic district a perfect base to explore Kenya’s capital while staying for business or leisure in 276 spacious rooms, suites and residences.

DAY 02: NAIROBI – SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

0630hrs. Buffet breakfast at Movenpick Hotel.

0730hrs. Depart for Samburu National Reserve.

1300hrs approx.: Arrive at Samburu Simba Lodge for check in and lunch.

The reserve is rich in wildlife with famous Samburu special five species such as the Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx.

Lion, leopard and cheetah are also quite easy to spot, thanks to the sparse grass cover. Samburu National Reserve is also home to large herds of elephants, and also abundant with over 450 bird species.

1600hrs: Depart for evening game drive in this amazing game reserve known for its five species such as the Gravy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx.

1830hrs: Return to the lodge.

Dinner and overnight stay at Samburu Simba Lodge.

DAY 03: FULL DAY AT SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

0630hrs: Wake up for a refreshing hot cup of coffee or tea. Then depart for a morning game drive to explore the Samburu national reserve and its intriguing wildlife.

OR HAVE A FULL DAY GAME DRIVE TODAY IN THE RESERVE WITH PICNIC LUNCH BOXES

0830hrs: Return to the lodge for a full buffet breakfast and spend the morning at your own leisure.

1230hrs: Enjoy a scintillating buffet lunch at the lodge.

Afternoon spent at leisure. You can relax by the swimming pool or you can also visit an authentic Samburu village during your game drive at extra costs.

1600hrs: Depart for an evening game drive.

Samburu is also home to the third of Kenya’s giraffe species – the rare Reticulated Giraffe (only found in the Northern parks). This is also where you see the blue-legged Somali Ostrich, the long-necked Gerenuk.

DAY 04: SAMBURU & ABERDARES NATIONAL PARK

0730 hrs Buffet breakfast at the Samburu simba Lodge

0830 hrs Depart after breakfast for Aberdares National Park.

1230 hrs Arrival for lunch at Aberdare Country Club which is the base hotel for the Ark.

Afternoon transfer to The Ark. (Pack small overnight bags for the Ark).

Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, iconic and yes, quirky. The Ark overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts a host of awesome wildlife. Modeled after Noah’s Ark, The Ark has four viewing decks with balconies and lounges to provide superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge. The animals come to you!

DAY 05: ABERDARES NATIONAL PARK & LAKE NAIVASHA

0730hrs: Enjoy a sumptuous buffet breakfast at the lodge and head to Aberdares Country Club to pick the left luggage.

0830 hrs: Depart towards Lake Naivasha.

You’ll arrive at Naivasha Sopa at approx. 1230 hrs; at the time for lunch and check in. You will spend your afternoon at leisure.

Lake Naivasha is a serene freshwater lake and a superb oasis for wildlife, birds and plants. Just beyond the lake’s shore are papyrus swamps, acacia woodlands and forests. There are more than 450 species of birds; from spectacled weavers, grey-backed fiscals, red-billed fire finches, little grebe, yellow billed stork, pelicans and African fish eagles among others.

The lake is one of the primary drinking spots for a host of wildlife including zebras, buffalos, impalas, elands and waterbucks. It is also a favorite place for hippos to cool themselves during the day.

A highlight of a visit here is a boating excursion around the lake or visit to the nearby Crescent Island. Some other exciting activates around Lake Naivasha include nature walks, horseback riding, flower farm trips, community visits. You can also opt for day excursions to Hell’s Gate.

DAY 06: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

0730hrs: Buffet breakfast at Lake Naivasha Simba lodge.

0800hrs: Depart for Masai Mara National Reserve.

Masai Mara National Reserve is well known as the “Jewel of Kenya. On your way to Maasai Mara National Reserve, you will enjoy different array of views which are just priceless.

1300hrs appx: Arrive at Masai Mara National reserve; you will have game drive enroute to your lodge for sumptuous Lunch at the lodge.

1530hrs: Enjoy your first game drive in this amazing game reserve known for its wildlife.

1600hrs: Evening game drive. A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeests, zebra, and gazelles from the Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and Mara River to reach Maasai Mara grazing fields. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed early June to August. The Mara has got also thousands of species of bird life and plant life.

1830hrs: Return to the lodge.

DAY 07: FULL DAY MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

0630hrs: Wake up for a refreshing hot cup of coffee or tea. Then depart for a morning game drive to explore the Mara plains and its intriguing wildlife.

Alternatively:-

You can opt for a Hot Air Balloon Safari instead of a morning game drive.

This is truly a fun and exciting way to see Africa’s landscapes and wildlife.

The trip is magical: spend about one hour floating over the Mara plains. You float in the sky, drift with the whim of the wind, overlooking the plains, just in time to experience a breathtaking sunrise and catch a bird’s eye view of the reserve.

DAY 08: DEPARTURE

0730hrs: Buffet breakfast at Mara Simba lodge.

0830hrs: Departure for Nairobi city – arrival by lunchtime.

Lunch on own arrangement before drop off at JKIA Airport for your home bound flight. (3 HRS PRIOR CHECK IN REQUIRED)

  1. Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles within East Africa. Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 24″x 17″x 7″ are impossible to store in vehicles and on aircraft and should not be used. (Baggage and personal effects are at owner’s risk throughout the tour and baggage insurance for members is strongly advised). Luggage limit of one soft bag per person during travel in

Kenya/Tanzania. Hard cases should be avoided as they cannot fit in safari vehicles
